February 2007: Update On Our Adoption Ponies |

This month has been a good test of our Heritage Ponies, some days are very wet, and I mean seriously wet, while other days have been extremely cold with a biting north or easterly wind. They all come into the Adoption Paddocks when they hear us about and stand in a line waiting for us to produce some hay, which they love. I have to admit that when clearing the paddocks of the by-product of the hay it is lovely to push your hands into their long coats and feel the warmth. Golden Flame looks absolutely fantastic and is coping superbly with the winter. She has been having short lessons with either Officer Dru or Jenni centered around discipline and behaviour. She is responding well and enjoys one to one attention. How remiss of me, Jenni is a new volunteer who has a sound knowledge of ponies and their needs and comes up to Brimpts whenever she can. The ponies respect her and she is able to work with them and knows their limitations. Starlight, what a change in a pony since her operation, she now actively seeks attention and adores a walk whether on her own or with the others. She too is having gentle lessons and is learning easy commands. George and Charlie are together in this update because what has become apparent is their youth. We seem to forget, sometimes, that they are only twenty months old and it shows in their training. Together they epitomise fun and even daring but on their own little insecurities show through. Their schooling will continue and Jenni and Dru can see when they are losing the plot; they always look for a positive note to finish the ponies lessons on. Rolo is coming along nicely and is flourishing with his special diet. He is not showing signs of worms any longer and he will eat all before him. His coat has become soft and luxuriant, just like his mums. (See the picture gallery). He thoroughly enjoys his walks and very easy lessons and likes to be around the stable block supervising the work. Keep your eye on the web site for upcoming events and new pictures in the gallery. Don’t forget the OPEN DAY on 18th FEBRUARY. We are all looking forward to seeing you. Andy & Joy. |
