WHERE THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAYWith your Will, extinction could be a thing of the past. Dartmoor ponies are as much a part of Dartmoor as the tors, the streams, the heather and the unpredictable weather. So much so, that we take them for granted.
Dartmoor pony populations are now at a critically low level. In 1950 there were several thousand ponies on the moor, now there is a fraction of this number. To halt the increasing rate of decline The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is working with the Dartmoor Pony Society and a group of Dartmoor pony keepers, to save the remaining gene pool. The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is a registered charity and was created to save the Dartmoor pony on Dartmoor. Due to the serious decline in the numbers of the indigenous Dartmoor pony, they are now at a “critical” level according to the numerical guidelines published by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
HOW YOU CAN HELPPeople from all walks of life, young and old can give to the DPHT during their lifetime. By extending your support and leaving a gift in your Will, you can help us to ensure that these unique animals are enjoyed by generations to come. MAKING A WILLThe only way we can ensure that our wishes are met when we die is by making a Will. Leaving things to chance may mean that the State could take everything and those we care about are left with nothing to remember us by. Although it is possible to make your own Will, it is advisable, especially if your wishes are not straightforward, to consult a solicitor or use a Will-writing service. Either should ensure that your Will is legal and valid. The Trust recognises that making a Will can often be a difficult and sensitive area. Some brief notes are included, however, should you wish to speak to someone to discuss your wishes further please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Dru Butterfield during office hours on 01626 355314. If you are able to let us know of your intentions then this will help us plan for the future. Information regarding legacies is always treated in the strictest confidence and is not binding in any way. If you have already made a Will but feel that you would like to include a gift, you should contact your solicitor and ask him to add this to your wishes. Again, it would be helpful to know of your intentions, but this is entirely up to you. ABOUT THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEGACYResidual Bequest - the remainder of your estate once all of your other bequests have been made and all associated costs met. Pecuniary Bequest - a specific sum of money left to a person, charity or other organisation. Please remember
