Make a Donation or Leave a Legacy
The DPHT relies entirely on grants and donations and without the support of the public we would not be able to function. So we urgently need your help to continue our work to keep the traditional Dartmoor pony grazing the Commons of Dartmoor.

MAKING A WILL
The only way we can ensure that our wishes are met when we die is by making a Will. Leaving things to chance may mean that the State could take everything and those we care about are left with nothing to remember us by. Although it is possible to make your own Will, it is advisable, especially if your wishes are not straightforward, to consult a solicitor or use a Will-writing service. Either should ensure that your Will is legal and valid.
The Trust recognises that making a Will can often be a difficult and sensitive area. Some brief notes are included, however, should you wish to speak to someone to discuss your wishes further please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Dru Butterfield during office hours on 01626 355314.
If you are able to let us know of your intentions then this will help us plan for the future. Information regarding legacies is always treated in the strictest confidence and is not binding in any way.
If you have already made a Will but feel that you would like to include a gift, you should contact your solicitor and ask him to add this to your wishes. Again, it would be helpful to know of your intentions, but this is entirely up to you.
ABOUT THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEGACY
Residual Bequest - the remainder of your estate once all of your other bequests have been made and all associated costs met.
Pecuniary Bequest - a specific sum of money left to a person, charity or other organisation.
Please remember:
- the value of a legacy may be affected by inflation
- a husband leaving his estate to his wife, or wife leaving her estate to her husband, for life and thereafter to the Trust, may reduce or eliminate tax liability.
How Your Gift Will Be Used
To raise the profile of “Heritage” ponies and support for the wild Dartmoor pony gene pool:
- To further develop the Heritage herd and support other traditional herds on Dartmoor
- To further foster a co-operative, shared working partnership with farmers
- To raise the value of the indigenous pony and increase the number of Heritage ponies people buy
- To expand our education programmes – for both children and adults
- To improve and expand the activities and facilities available at our Heritage Pony Centre
