Meet The Pony Day at Brimpts Farm 28th December 2005 **For pictures please see here** The launch of the adoption scheme by the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) has received a fantastic response from Western Morning News and website readers and the charity would like to welcome visitors to a meet the pony day on December 28 to visit the adopted ponies for real at Brimpts Farm, Dartmeet. "The adoption scheme has been really successful and we want to give people the opportunity while enjoying their Christmas break to come and visit the ponies" explained DPHT project officer, Dru Butterfield. The open day will give visitors the chance to understand and learn more about the Dartmoor type pony and its heritage which is one of the key objectives of the trust. Numbers of these ponies on the moor are now less than 500 and the charity has set itself up to secure a future for them before it is too late. The trust has adopted four Dartmoor types from a traditional herd at Brimpts Farm and WMN readers have named them George, Charlie, Golden Flame and Starlight. Ms Butterfield added: "The scheme is a wonderful way for someone to follow the ponies' lives and understand why they are so important to our heritage. An adoption makes an ideal anniversary, birthday or Christmas gift." Readers who decide to adopt a pony for £12 a year will receive an adoption pack, a print of a Dartmoor pony, an adoption certificate and updates on their chosen animal. They can also visit the ponies at Brimpts Farm, where the trust plans to open its educational centre at Easter 2006. The day will run from 10am to 3pm to find out more about the open day or to adopt a pony, please call DPHT project officer Dru Butterfield on 01626 355314 or log on to www.dpht.co.uk Booking is advisable.
