Mission and Aims
DPHT Mission:
To preserve the indigenous Dartmoor Pony from extinction and to maintain its presence on Dartmoor, thus protecting our heritage for future generations.
DPHT Aims:
- To protect and preserve the Dartmoor Pony as one of the recognized emblems of Dartmoor and for its value to tourism.
- To utilize the Dartmoor Pony's superb temperament as a platform for learning through innovative and socially inclusive programmes.
- To provide the general public with education, awareness and information of the special heritage of the Dartmoor Pony.
- To increase opportunities for visitors to develop an appreciation of Dartmoor’s cultural heritage by providing practical experiences in conservation.
- To encourage the use of the native Dartmoor Pony for conservation management.
- To seek public support and financial sponsorship to ensure the survival of the Dartmoor Pony and its future welfare.
- To work with all statutory / advisory bodies and the Moorland Farmers, to make the Dartmoor Pony more valued and valuable.
- To monitor and support the control of the number of indigenous Dartmoor ponies.
